Review all three reports well before a mortgage application. An open dispute, a corrected account, and a lender's underwriting requirements can interact in ways that depend on the loan program.
Check the underlying records
Ask your loan officer how an active dispute comment affects your particular application. Keep the original report, supporting evidence, submission, result, and updated report. The score in a consumer app can differ from the score a mortgage lender uses.
Take the next step
Correct documented errors early and coordinate any change requested by the lender. Continue paying on time and avoid unnecessary new credit during the application. Ask for the lender's actual requirements rather than relying on a generic target score.
Know the limits
Removing a dispute comment does not itself fix inaccurate information. Do not dispute accurate accounts in an attempt to engineer an approval.
