A wrong charge on your card statement and a wrong balance on a bureau report are different problems. The same transaction can create both.
A wrong charge on your card statement and a wrong balance on a bureau report are different problems. The same transaction can create both.
Check the facts
For a billing error, promptly review the statement and the issuer's written billing-dispute instructions and deadlines. Preserve the merchant record and transaction evidence. For a bureau error, save the report and its updated date.
Next steps
Use each process that applies. Correcting a report figure does not resolve an underlying unauthorized charge; reversing a charge may not immediately update every bureau.
