An authorized user may be allowed to use a card without being the person legally responsible for the account. A report incorrectly listing the authorized user as the owner can misstate responsibility.

What to check

Compare the bureau's responsibility code with the card agreement and issuer records. If you joined an account as an authorized user, ask the issuer how it furnished your role to each bureau. A balance attached to that account can still appear in reporting depending on issuer practices.

What to do next

If the role is wrong, dispute that field with the issuer and affected bureau with supporting records. If you want to leave the account, request removal through the issuer and then verify how the reports update.
